WSIMS Holiday Celebration and General Meeting 2020

With the current COVID-19 safety code, WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services organized the casual holiday celebration and general meeting through virtual Zoom meeting at 7pm on December 18, 2020.

Representatives of MPs, WS advisory board, director board, organizational members, sister organizations, members and events participants took their precious 2 hours from their busy schedules and attended this casual holiday celebration and general meeting.

2020 has been an unforgettable year. As we gather here, our thoughts, and prayers go to the unfortunate families that lost their loved ones. For those who tested positive for COVID-19, we sincerely wish them a very speed recovery; for all the families affected by this pandemic, we sincerely wish the coming new year brings us all health, peace, happiness and prosperity.

This year we had to cancel all the pre-scheduled WS events at the public libraries and community centres. We managed to drive seniors to their medical appointments, to shop and deliver prescriptions drugs and groceries for those who needed, to donate essential equipment to the most vulnerable people… We continue to do the monthly small amount donations to the United Nations Children’s Fund and other places.

For the 6th Canada Multicultural Creative Festival 2020, our annual event for Culture Days, instead of onsite celebration, we received about 5 hours original videos, short films, creative writings, songs, paintings and more, under the theme of “We Are All in This Together”. We then edited it into a 1.5 hours video and shared it with the public through online platforms.

Appreciation certificates were sent to our dedicated volunteers and participants, as we deeply appreciate all your contributions. We know it hasn't been easy, but you availed yourself every step of the way.

Our holiday celebration and general meeting was ended with “lucky guess” full of abundance and laughter. Del and 9 more lucky guessers won the lucky prizes with appreciation and joy in our thankful hearts.

We have monthly small group Zoom meetings at 7pm on the 18th. Usually, each meeting we have a free workshop on a certain topic, we share original creative writings, and we chit-chat to make virtual social connections. It is always about 1 hour, very casual. Everyone is welcome to join from the comfort of their home.

Our next zoom meeting will be a free workshop about online meetings and cyber security, focusing for parents that have kids and grandparents that have grandkids aged 9-15, we are lucky to have Dr. Maryam Ra, WS Director Board member, to be our next guest presenter.
