May has been a time of celebration, commemoration and recognizing the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada.

Asian Heritage Month was officially recognized by the federal government in May 2002. Federal government’s official declaration acknowledges the presence in Canada for two centuries of people from East Asia, South Asia, West Asia, and Southeast Asia who immigrated here, bringing their rich cultural heritage and various ethnicities, languages and religious traditions.

Some migrants have faced discrimination, exploitation, and racism in some places. Asian descents have demonstrated resilience and have organized to combat discrimination and racism, and they have been contributing to build a more inclusive society.

Asian Canadians have contributed to every aspect of Canadian life, including the arts, science, sports, business, government, non-profit organizations and many more.

Our organization is extremely proud to have many members and volunteers of Asian heritage active on our floors and in our Locals across the communities, together with many other walks of life we are taking important steps toward building more equitable, healthier, stronger and better communities.
