For celebrating Culture Days, for celebrating Canada-China Year of Tourism 2018, for celebrating multicultural creative writing and lightening up community spirit, sponsored by Culture Days, BC Culture Days, City of Richmond, Richmond Art Centre, WS Immigrant & Multicultural Services Society successfully hosted “A year to remember - 2018 Multicultural Creative Works Festival” at Richmond Culture Centre preferably on September 29th, 2018.
Sophia Zhang, the chair of WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society, gave the welcome speech. She sent her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been supporting the Canada Multicultural Creative Works Festival over the years; through the bridge of “Canada-China Year of Tourism 2018”, hoping to further enhance the harmony for the multicultural society of Canada, to further improve the culture exchange, economic and trade cooperation between Canada and China.
MLA John Yap representing BC Premier John Horgan, Councillor Bill McNulty and Linda McPhail representing Richmond Mayor Mayer Malcolm Brodie, and School Trustee Alice Wong sent their warmest greetings to every participant, and thought highly about the annual Multicultural Creative Works Festival, they also sent their appreciation for the community contribution made by WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society.
Everyone was welcome to participate this event from famous poets and writers to any individual who is passionate about creative writing, more than 20 writers shared their experience of 2018 Canada-China Tourism which including but not limited to:
-Canadian/Chinese attractions, tours and experiences;
-Canada's/China's national parks and historic sites! Discover Canada's museums and enjoy unforgettable experiences;
-Your experience to stay with family and/or friends in Canada/China;
-The warm-hearted Canadians/Chinese, tell us about the nice people in Canada/China.
Some gift books donated by Sophia Zhang, Chun-Hak Kwon, LiangDeng and more, were presented to some lucky winners for fun Q-A.
Everyone enjoyed the music, dance, cakes and creative works sharing:
original poem, essay, short story, song, painting, photography, calligraphy, drawing and many more.
First 50 selected original creative works received were published as a digital book "Most Inspiring Creative Work to Remember - 2018 Multicultural Creative Works Festival" online.
The event was hosted by Bonnie Chen, one of the board directors WSIMS.

A year to remember
- about Canada-China Year of Tourism 2018
Although nearly 10,000 km separate our two countries, we are friends and family.Today, more than 1.7 million Canadians—about 5% of Canada's population—have Chinese ancestry. Mandarin and Cantonese are the most spoken languages in Canada after English and French.
To celebrate our deep ties, the governments of Canada and China have officially named 2018 the Canada-China Year of Tourism. It's an incredible opportunity to celebrate our history and what makes us unique.
2018 will be a great year for Canadian tourism. We're ready to welcome record numbers of Chinese visitors, and Canadian tourism operators are ready to show off all the excitement and adventure that our country has to offer.
In 2016, more than 610,000 Chinese tourists visited Canada
More than 1.8 million Canadian jobs are related to the tourism sector
In 2016, international visitors contributed $20 billion to Canada's economy
In September 2016, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang officially declared 2018 the Canada-China Year of Tourism
The Government of Canada has set a goal of doubling the number of Chinese tourists coming to Canada by 2021
Canada recently opened seven new visa application centres in China to help Chinese visitors come to Canada more easily and quickly
China is currently Canada’s second-largest trading partner, after the United States
