Happy International Nurses Day

It’s International Nurses Day, and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale today. The theme for this year is Nursing the World to Health.

WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society supports nurses, midwives, and all frontline essential workers around the world by celebrating their bravery, courage, kindness, dedication and suffering personal sacrifice to provide essential care services, especially during this COVID-19 time, when the world is standing up for the anti-coroner war.

WS Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society supports the millions and billions of frontline essential workers and volunteers during this special pandemic time. The doctors, nurses and other health and health services; law enforcement, public safety, first responders and emergency response personnel; vulnerable population service providers; critical infrastructure; food and agriculture service providers; retail; transportation; industry and manufacturing; sanitation; communications and information technology; financial institutions; and other non-health essential service providers, they have been risking their lives to protect us, they keep the world beautiful, they all are our heroes, heartfelt wishes to all of them! ❤️

To mark International Nurses’ Day today The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Princess Royal, The Countess of Wessex and Princess Alexandra joined together to pay tribute to the world’s nurses.

The World Health Organization (WHO) joins hundreds of partners worldwide to highlight the importance of nurses in the healthcare continuum and thank nurses for what they do.

Historically, as well as today, nurses together with other health workers are at the forefront of fighting epidemics and pandemics - providing high quality and respectful treatment and care. Luckily now more than ever, many governments around the world support and invest in their nurses and other health workers.

Premier’s statement on International Nurses Day

Premier John Horgan has released the following statement in recognition of International Nurses Day:

“Today is International Nurses Day, and in appreciation of B.C. nurses, the Province is proud to proclaim May 11 – 17 as Nursing Week to recognize the extraordinary contributions of licensed practical nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, registered nurses and nurse practitioners.

“This year, British Columbians join people from around the world in raising our hands to the nurses working tirelessly to help people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 has reminded us all of the selflessness, dedication and leadership it takes to be a nurse.

“May 12th also marks the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. As a nurse, she helped lay the foundation for safe, sanitary medical practices in the 19th and 20th centuries, and continues to inspire those who follow in her footsteps to help ease people’s pain and suffering through compassionate care. Nightingale was famously quoted as saying, ‘How very little can be done under the spirit of fear,’ and I think these words can inspire us all to act with courage and determination during the COVID-19 crisis.

“On behalf of British Columbians, thank you to B.C.’s nurses for moving heaven and earth to help people with COVID-19 and all the other medical needs that don’t stop during a pandemic. We recognize that you are being pushed to the limit, which is why we must all keep doing our part to protect and support B.C.’s front line workers and our health care system.

“Like so many British Columbians, I have been standing on my front porch every evening to bang pots and pans in your honour. I continue to feel sincere gratitude each time. Thank you for everything you do.”
